Mike Smith has been in Law Enforcement since 1981, where he started his career as a Deputy Sheriff.
Mike started with the Missouri State Water Patrol in 1985, and was assigned as an investigator in 1993 for the southeast section of Missouri. He was promoted to the Director of Criminal Investigations position at General Headquarters in Jefferson City, MO. in 1995. In 2004 Mike was promoted to District II Commander over Lake of the Ozarks holding the rank of Captain and in 2005 he was appointed Lt. Colonel of the Water Patrol. He retired from the Missouri State Water Patrol on November 1, 2010, after 26 years of service.
Mike became an IAMI member in 1993 and an IAMI Board member in 2002, where he was assigned Co-Director of Training. He was selected to serve on IAMI’s Executive Board at the 2004 annual conference in West Palm Beach, FL. At the 2008 Annual Conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Mike was selected and served two years as IAMI's President.
Mike and his wife Julie have two grown sons, Travis and Brandon. Julie has assisted IAMI with registration and other necessary duties since 1997.
