Joe Derie is a retired Coast Guard officer and a licensed officer of the Merchant Marine.  

A former instructor in the deck and engineering departments at California Maritime Academy, his certifications and registrations include NAMS-CMS and AMS, SAMS marine surveyor; ABYC Master Marine Technician; Certified Plant Engineer and Registered Professional Engineer.

He does vessel, cargo and container surveys and investigations.

Areas of expertise include vessel accident and fire investigation, insurance fraud investigation, salvage/recovery operations, litigation consulting and expert testimony.
