Jim Steffen • Certified Marine Investigator

I began a career in boat repair and new construction in 1974 and in 1978 moved my operation from Port Townsend, Washington to Sitka, Alaska. When my customers began asking me to look at vessels they were interested in purchasing I decided to develop a marine survey practice, and I have been performing Condition and Valuation and Damage surveys, as well as performing ultrasonic and moisture testing for 25 years. During that time I received training and have performed accident investigations, and have QI status for pollution response work. I am a member of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) as well as IAMI, and recently attained my CMI status. I live and work in Sitka, Alaska with my wife Judy. Our daughter Margie is about to graduate from Western Washington University. I love my work and my connections with other SAMS and IAMI members.
